My best girl

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

I feel like I blinked and, all of a sudden, you grew up.

Where did the chubby baby cheeks go? And the little voice that said so many words wrong, but I never wanted to correct you because your versions were so much better.

When did you become so sensible and independent? Wearing your tie to school and running through the doors without a second glance back to wave goodbye.

What can I do to make time go slower? I refuse to let these moments slip by without grasping hold of them and remembering the little bits. The bedtime cuddles. Brushing your hair and plaiting it. Sharing chocolate under a blanket on the sofa and watching a movie. Laughing and being silly in our own way. No one else finds it as funny as us, because we share the same sense of humour.

I hope you never stop asking me if we can have a 'Mummy and Meryn day'. We don't have nearly as many as I'd like, but that makes them extra special.

I can't believe how beautiful you are. Inside and out.

I'm so proud of you. My best girl.

  1. I don't have children myself but I can imagine this is very scary! I feel it somewhat with my little cousins that I remember holding when they were tiny tiny babies and are now fully fledged teenagers! Time is a funny thing really x

  4. What a beautiful daughter you have. They always say that time flies when you have a baby but I don't think any of us expect it to happen quite as quick as it does, especially when they keeping us awake all night. Hope you get to enjoy another 'Mummy and Meryn day' soon.

  5. As others have said, your daughter has a lovely name! Everyone loves to tell me how fast they grow up, and I suppose they are right. Before I know it I'll be in the same position you are in. Although I'm sure Meryn is also at stage full of new adventures for you both. Xx
