The giggles | The Ordinary Moments

This little man really makes me laugh. All three of my children do. It's one of the things I love most about being a mum. Being silly, messing about and playing with them. Being an adult can be pretty dull sometimes and I've never been someone that takes things too seriously... unless I really have to.

On this particular day, it was dull and rainy outside and everyone was feeling pretty... meh. So we decided to batten down the hatches, call in emergency chocolate supplies and declare it a pyjama day. The best kind of day.

Ayden loves to play with his brother and sister, but he's just as happy to be left alone with a bucket of Lego minifigures. He'll occupy himself for hours with those. But lately he's been coming to find me to play more often. Putting out his little hand and dragging me somewhere to play.

He's nearly three now and is the funniest, most mischievous little thing. He's such good company and has a great sense of humour. I love seeing how their personalities change and develop at this age.

Dylan and Meryn are that bit older and, although they love nothing more than snuggling on the sofa with me to watch a movie or having tickle fights with daddy, they also love playing on their own on their iPads or in their rooms. Don't get me wrong, some days this is great. I can actually get things done! But sometimes I miss them following me around and being dependent on me to entertain them.

So I'm clinging on to the little hand that comes to find me and drag me off to play. Everything else can wait.

  1. Aww what a lovely post, I've actually feel quite tearful. My son is in uni and it only seems like yesterday he was a toddler. Where has the time gone? These are the best moments, give him a cuddle from me and hold him tight. x

  2. this is lovely. I regret wishing my son's time away when he was little (just wanted him to walk and talk etc) but he is starting school in September and it will be hard to get much time just the two of us after that :( x

  3. So lovely! Those moments you really treasure, my little one is in such a silly and giggly mood today, it makes everything so lovely, and makes the harder days 10 times better! It's crazy how fast they grow up, I know before long Abbie won't want hugs and silly moments with me, although it might be a good 10 years to go, the past 10 years already have flown by! x

  5. Aw, I really relate to this now my eldest two, aged 6 and 4, are getting more independent and happy to go off by themselves. I am completely making the most of my youngest, almost two, as I know how quickly it flies by. Your pyjama day sounds lovely. x

  7. Little Miss H often grabs me by the hand and says "come on mummy, let's go play". It is the cutest and definitely one of my favourite things about being mum. Like you, I love the excuse to be silly and dance insanely that motherhood provides. And the spontaneous giggles that erupt as a result are the best. This is a lovely post and that photograph is gorgeous. Hugs Lucy xxxx
